Eaton feeder system makes motor starter assembly faster and easier
Eaton’s new Motor Starter Feeder System (MSFS) provides machine and system builders a fast, easy, versatile and cost-effective method of assembling motor starters for multi-motor applications. This versatile system includes backplates with integral three-phase busbars rated at 125 A, complemented by feed-in terminal blocks and adapter plates for motor-protective circuit breakers, motor starter combinations and soft starters. Other components, such as measuring modules, can also be integrated easily.
For maximum convenience and time saving, MSFS backplates can either be clipped directly onto din mounting rails or installed on a standard mounting plate. In either case, once installed, the backplates are immediately ready to receive adaptor plates and feed-in terminal blocks. The backplates are available to either accommodate up to four or up to eight adaptor plates. On offer are standard adaptor plates, to which users can add components such as PKZ and PKE motor-protective circuit breakers, as well as special adaptor plates for larger assemblies such as reversing starters.
Feed-in terminal blocks for the MSFS system can be positioned anywhere on the backplate and use snap-lock technology for tool-free wiring connection. Power connections can be made to the top or bottom of the terminal blocks. The terminal blocks are rated at 80 A. For higher currents, up to the maximum 125 A rating of the MSFS system, two terminal blocks can be used to feed a single backplate.
Enhanced safety is a key benefit of the MSFS system, which provides power distribution in accordance with IEC 61439 and UL 508. The system offers IP20 protection against accidental contact with live parts, which means that components can be replaced without having to turn off the electrical supply, where this is permitted by local regulations.
The MSFS feeder system bridges the gap between the use of simple commoning links for supplying motor starters with power, which is inexpensive but provides only limited benefits, and systems like the Eaton Sasy range, which provides wide functionality and handles loads up to 630 A, but is not always cost-effective in smaller applications.
